Volunteer Peer Support
We are looking for someone passionate about volunteering, who has had a previous successful volunteering journey. You will have a friendly attitude and enjoy interacting with a variety of people. We aim to make the volunteering experience a positive and sustainable one.
You will have a friendly attitude and enjoy interacting with volunteers, supporting them as necessary through providing Peer Support and mentoring. The ideal applicant will be passionate about volunteering and happy to work as part of a team. You must have excellent communication skills and will have the ability to discuss a range of volunteering issues and queries as they arise.
Although we don’t specify the time that you commit to volunteering, we ask that you give a minimum of 3 hours a week to support volunteers at the Royal Hospital. You must have excellent communication skills.
You will report on a day-to-day basis to the Volunteer Manager, although you may be asked on occasion to support other members of the RHC Public Engagement Team.
What we are looking for
Ideally, our Peer-to-Peer Volunteer can inspire and mentor our Volunteers for them to fully enjoy their volunteering experience and gather a sense of fulfilment about what they do to help others at the Royal Hospital.
Although no prior experience is required, you will have a basic knowledge of the main computer systems. Training will be provided. Volunteer hours should be carried out on weekdays, Monday to Friday.
You will need to remain calm in the event of an issue or emergency and know the procedures in place to deal with any such events (these are provided for you in the Volunteer Handbook and can be discussed at your induction).
Training requirements for the Peer-to-Peer Support Volunteer
We value our volunteers and will do our best to make the volunteer experience with us enjoyable and rewarding. We offer training for all our volunteer roles, and we try to extend opportunities for volunteers to improve existing knowledge and skills and gain new ones.
Before your start date:
You will be required to attend induction training, including information on your role as a volunteer and RHC policies and procedures which will support you in your day-to-day role. This will include safeguarding & professional boundaries training which you will be required to attend before you commence your volunteer role. The Peer-to-Peer Support Volunteer will also be required to complete GDPR training due to activities in handling personal data.
Other training available
Refresher training is required two years after your start date. We offer regular supervision to support you in your role and provide you with an opportunity to discuss your progress and needs through one to ones.
Other key information
- There is a short settling in period of three months to see if the role is right for you and if you are right for the role.
- You must be 18 years old or over to do carry out the role.
- You will be required to complete a safe recruitment process, including providing 2 references and a DBS check which will be provided by the RHC.
